At Cavalier, we continuously work on building a vertically integrated value chain which is economically sustainable and which provides quality of life – all the while preserving the environment and its resources for future generations.

Our formalized sustainability strategy involves commitments on economic development, environmental protection, and social wellbeing

Economic Development

A strong and engaged private sector is indispensable to alleviate extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity. The Cavalier specializes in continuous development towards establishing the shortest and most effective route for quality red meat products from farm to fork. We hold international SEDEX SMETA Membership, and enforce the ETI Base Code on Ethical Trade throughout our supply chain.

Social Wellbeing

An established Social and Ethics Committee meets regularly to discuss the agenda points as outlined by the Company Act of South Africa. Actions and Outcomes from this Committee includes a Skills Development Programme and Conditional Sponsorship, an Employee Wellbeing Programme, Anonymous Hotline, Subsidized meals, and Community investment projects in the pipeline.

Environmental Protection

Cavalier has developed three strategic action plans to identify priorities and set targets and timelines towards environmental protection. Within our Waste Reduction Strategy we focus on the hierarchy of reduce, recycle, recover and only as a last resort, dispose. We are determined to reach our target of zero waste to landfill by 2030.
